Atlantic City
The setting sun is teasing the hardy few taking in the Boardwalk on one of the most chilly days of a cold winter. The sky to the southwest is stained with a fiery orange, but everything else is gray, a drab midwinter's landscape.
If this is not exactly a winter of discontent in Atlantic City, it is at least a term for reflection. Winter down the shore is slow; buses taking white-haired slots players to the spacious casinos are not so ubiquitous, the gambling floors are silent, and dealers stand idly behind blackjack tables.
