A blackjack story by Ben Mezrich - 2004-02-06
Ben Mezrich (photo) is the author who penned Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions. I heard about the book first from his Wired article, "Hacking Las Vegas: the inside story of the MIT blackjack team's conquest of the casinos".

I got the book this last Christmas and enjoyed it. It's a fast read. The story is captivating. However, in my review at Amazon (page back to 30Dec03), I doubted the book's veracity. To my surprise, I got an e-mail message from the author: "Wanted to set your mind at ease."

Where do casino sides stand? - 2004-02-06
Despite efforts by a panel of journalists and by audience members to go deeper into assertions of both opponents and advocates of a proposed casino at DeJope bingo hall, neither side altered much from its canned responses in a debate Thursday night at Edgewood College.

Dane County voters will be questioned in a referendum on Feb. 17 whether they support adding games like blackjack and poker to existing offerings at DeJope.
