UAS's second Winter Soiree includes casino - 2004-02-06
University of Alaska Southeast will present its second yearly Winter Soiree from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Egan Classroom Wing and Library.

"We call it Monte Carlo-style entertainment because there's no pretense that you'll be taking any money home with you," reported UAS spokesman Kevin Myers in a press release. "You'll make a donation to the scholarship and in return you get chips to use in the casino room. There are roulette, blackjack and poker tables. It's a lot of fun, and the money goes to help students."

Contract could affect gaming firms - 2004-02-06
Matt Wellman is eagerly keeping tabs on a State Police request for proposals to construct a new video poker monitoring program.

Poker is the sole game that's authorized on video lottery terminals in Louisiana, but if the business has to find the money for new machines, it could offer video poker operators a ready-made argument to request that the Legislature legalize other games, like Keno or blackjack, to use on their terminals.
