Saugatuck schedules casino night benefit - 2004-02-06
Community Recreation in Saugatuck is arranging its yearly casino night fundraiser on Feb.14. This year's festivities will start at 8 p.m. at Coral Gables in Saugatuck, 220 Water St. The event is available to the public and will feature a diverse range of entertainment.

Blackjack, roulette, and dice games will run throughout the night as the sounds of the band Living Soul fill the air. The activities will also feature a silent auction including donated items from local and national businesses.

For 7-year-old Tyler, it was "Somewhere over China" and then a reading of his favorite book, about a pig named Olivia. For Max, 10, it was "Sweet Baby James," because it focused on cowboys, and then a fastgame of sports trivia.

"Did I gamble? Yes. Did I lose tens of thousands of dollars? No. I played blackjack because I thought I could make a little money. I was told in treatment that drugs and gambling stimulate the same center in the brain."
