Carmel Street Scenes strikes the deck - 2004-02-05
Humorous skits based on popular fables and lots of food and other entertainment will underline the 30th annual Carmel High School Street Scenes fund-raiser, which will be presented Feb. 13 and 14 at the school.

The popular student event will present four performances each night in the school auditorium. Meanwhile, the gymnasium will be converted into a Las Vegas style casino, with various games of chance such as blackjack, poker, craps, roulette and wheel of fortune.

Iowa legislators unsure how to pull through expected gambling losses - 2004-02-05
Iowa House Speaker Christopher Rants could not move far from his office Wednesday without coming face to face with the biggest challenge now looming over the Legislature.

On Tuesday, the Iowa Supreme Court tossed out Iowa’s structure for taxing land-based, racetrack casinos at a greater rate than riverboat casinos. The court decided that legislators lacked a “rational basis” for creating a two-tiered system.
