Gambling measure would end required cruises - 2004-02-13
House members revealed the highlights of a broad gambling expansion bill Thursday that could permit up to five new riverboat licenses in the state, lift cruising requirements for riverboat casinos and permit table games like keno, roulette and blackjack, at racetracks.

Leaders from districts that are attempting to entice new casinos as an economic development tool applauded the bill, while gambling foes said it would expand the industry too far.

Excitement Escalates in Black Hawk County - 2004-02-13
The appearance of gambling in the state could be changing. There's news from the state capitol Thursday, with possible ripple effects for everyone. Lawmakers revealed a bill, and discussions are gearing up, on the proposal for five additional casino licenses in the state.

Those feature making a charity fund for counties without gaming, and designing a treatment programs for gamblers. Table games such as keno, blackjack and roulette, could also be permitted at racetracks for a one-time cost of ten million dollars.
