Gambling tarnishes acknowledgement of tribes - 2004-02-11
When European settlers first came to Connecticut, Native Americans they encountered didn't deal blackjack, spin roulette wheels or toss dice. The increase of Indian-run gambling facilities here and elsewhere within the country has little to do with tribal traditions but everything to do with profit.

That is the focus of our beef with the current tribal recognition system. The financial success of the Mashantucket Pequot's Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun casinos in eastern Connecticut is popular enough to make efforts for a tribal recognition seem valuable.
