Ho-Chunk won't make a second attempt - 2004-02-10
If Dane County locals vote next week in opposition of transforming the DeJope bingo hall to a casino, Ho-Chunk Nation officials state that they will not return for an additional.

Dane County locals will vote in a referendum on Feb. 17 on whether they would like Ho-Chunk include such entertainment as blackjack and craps to the bill at DeJope, which is situated in southeast Madison.
Gov. Jim Doyle has insisted he would not authorize a casino at DeJope if a vote failed.

Casino Presents Offer To Legislators - 2004-02-10
The gambling dispute was ongoing at the Statehouse Monday in closed-door meetings.
Last week, the Iowa Supreme Court demanded the state to compensate land-based casinos over $100 million in back taxes.

The state would also have to tax Prairie Meadows the same as it taxes additional casinos, and Prairie Meadows would want to be capable of adding table games such as poker and black jack.
"We're willing to use the judgement as a shield, rather than a sword," stated Prairie Meadows' attorney Tom Flynn.
