Grassroots attempts in Danbury to halt casino - 2004-02-10
Now that Schaghticoke Indian Tribe has federal acknowledgement there are worries about Connecticut becoming a potential home to another casino.

"We have refused to meet with the chief along with members of the tribe specifically about any casino development in Danbury. I don't want pit bosses and Black Jack dealers. I am looking for corporate executives, executive assistants, attorneys, and corporate development. That is the kind of Danbury we want," insists Boughton.

Casino election spending hits peak - 2004-02-10
The fight regarding the casino vote is the most expensive election campaign in the history of Dane County, with the Ho-Chunk Nation poised to spend a minimum of $1.3 million.

The tribe has outspent its rival, local anti-casino group No Dane Casino, over 40 to 1 through Feb.2, leading up to the Feb. 17 vote on developing gambling at DeJope Bingo Hall on the Southeast Side. The heated six-week debate has been on the merits of permitting slot machines, blackjack, poker and craps there.
