Riviera shortfall broadens - 2004-02-10
Losses at the parent company of the Riviera hotel-casino broadened partly because the company won fewer dollars from gamblers in Las Vegas and spent money on a successful effort to beat a vote that would have legalized slot machines at race tracks in Colorado.

Cash flow at the property fell 4.7 percent to $4.2 million. A range of factors such as a lower than normal total won from blackjack players, growing union benefits and greater health care and energy costs resulted in the weakening cash flow, Vannucci stated.

Casino Proposes Offers To Legislators - 2004-02-10
The gambling dispute continued at the Statehouse Monday in closed-door deliberations. Last week, the Iowa Supreme Court commanded the state to pay land-based casinos over $100 million in back taxes. The case impacts Prairie Meadows Racetrack Casino in Altoona, Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino, and Bluffs Run Casino and Greyhound Park in Council Bluffs.

The state would also have to tax Prairie Meadows the same as it taxes other casinos, and Prairie Meadows would want to include table games like poker and black jack.
