Art Cole was a thrifty type who liked the color green. He was never in debt, and in his work as a wholesaler, he never gave credit. He'd take your check, and if you shortchanged him, you paid cash next time.
As a one-man operation, he called on stores, convincing them to stock Lucky Strikes and Chesterfields; Alka-Seltzer; Blackjack, Beeman's and Doublemint; and cigars and chewing tobacco. He took trips to the casino for the slots and the buffet.
