Proponents took a step closer Monday to gathering signatures to put before voters a measure that would put a stop to Indian tribes' monopoly on slot machines in California.

It follows multiple failed legal challenges to the tribes' monopoly on slot machines, though the card rooms can introduce table games like poker and blackjack.
