Local officials yesterday sought the Legislature to clarify their powers to take over so-called mini-casinos and various gambling activities through zoning.

Mini-casinos, approved in 1997, are card rooms with house-banked, casino-style card games like blackjack. Their explosive popularity and high visibility have introduced concerns from Tacoma to Spokane about the spread of gambling and its impact on communities.
