Don’t count on gambling expansion - 2004-01-22
Tom Grey, executive director of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling, spent a lot of time far from his Rockford home last year battling attempts to expand gambling.
Those jobless numbers appear to prove Grey’s point. “There’s development for casinos but not much else.” He’s emphasized to me that gambling is disposable income. Money spent at slot machines, poker, blackjack, etc., is money that’s not being spent on films, dining out and other entertainment that helps support communities.
