Looking for the Big Hurt in Las Vegas - 2004-01-17
It didn't have to be this way. The Chicago White Sox could have scheduled a conference call in which Frank Thomas pledged his allegiance to the South Side of Chicago.
As I stay at a blackjack table, I'm struck with a recollection of the Big Hurt. It's late March 1998. The Sox are in Vegas to play two exhibition games before their normal season starts. I'm at a roulette table at Caesars Palace, watching Robin Ventura put chips on 23, his uniform number.
