City pursues $1 mil from tribe for museum - 2004-01-15
City officials are seeking a $1 million grant from a tribe that has gambling casinos to assist in payment for a new exhibit at the Heard Museum.

Under Proposition 202, tribes were permitted to add slot machines and open Nevada-style blackjack in their gaming establishments in return for sharing some of their casino winnings with the state.

Cops will continue to observe Raceway - 2004-01-15
While City Public Safety Commissioner Tom Curley doesn't forecast a rise in crime when slot-machine-like video gaming machines launch at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, the county's district attorney is taking a wait-and-see approach.

Murphy stated that their experience has shown less crime problems at VLT-only facilities than at full-blown casinos that also include table games like blackjack, roulette and poker.
