New casino among top issues for Tonto Apaches - 2004-01-14
Big changes at the Mazatzal Casino were among the top issues for the Tonto Apaches in 2003, according to Tribal Chairperson Vivian Burdette.

"We've started the new casino," Burdette stated.

In November, the casino's chief executive officer, Jim Gannarelli disclosed the tribe's plans for a new casino. Expected to launch in only 10 months, the new facility will have 45,000 square feet, 100 new slot machines, more blackjack tables, and a 40-guest suite hotel.

State's casino probe efforts, questionable - 2004-01-14
State gambling inspectors dispute accusations that they haven't aggressively policed Minnesota tribal casinos and have mismanaged some inspection records.

Those powers vary, but attention is primarily on verifying that video games of chance like slot machines pay out between 80 and 95 percent of what they take in, as stated in the agreement. State investigators, in quarterly visits, also investigate blackjack games.
